Indianapolis Public Schools

Mission

James Russell Lowell Elementary seeks to create a challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations for success through development-appropriate instruction that allows for individual differences and learning styles. Our school promotes a safe, orderly, caring, and supportive environment. We are a caring school community.  Each student's self-esteem is fostered by positive relationships with students and staff. We strive to have our parents, teachers, and community members actively involved in our students' learning.

College Readiness

The staff and families of James Russell Lowell Elementary School believe that all of our students will one day attend colleges and universities that will allow  them to excel as professionals in different fields.  Evidence of our commitment to this belief is found throughout the school.  Each hallway is named after an Ivy League college or university.  The main hallway contains pendants and information from various institutions of higher learning.  All administrators and teachers have information about their college or university posted in their offices and classrooms.  Every classroom has the year that their grade will graduate from college posted.  Classes complete college readiness activities during the month.  Students are taught the work and study habits that ensure their success in college and as citizens of a global society.

Each week our student news casters share information about a staff member's college degrees and the licenses they obtained.   At least once month staff members collectively wear college/university college attire.  At least once a semester there is a weeklong emphasis on a set of colleges and universities such as Ivy League schools and colleges and universities in Indiana.
